A few of my favourites

Unique ceremonies

Adapting to whatever story you want to tell.

With over two decades of experience and more than 1,000 weddings to my credit, I pride myself on adapting to any vision a couple has for their special day. Whether your ideal celebration involves traditional elegance or an unconventional theme, such as:

  • · Dressing up as a pirate, a magician, a Greek Orthodox priest, a surfer and a game show host
  • · Performing a ceremony at a heavy metal concert
  • · For a couple obsessed with the afterlife – he arrived in a coffin on a motorcycle sidecar!

My goal is to deliver a service that perfectly matches you.

One of my favourite techniques for starting a ceremony is sharing a light-hearted, personalised story about the two of you. This approach breaks the ice, engages your guests, and sets a relaxed, joyful tone for the rest of the celebration.

Story one

Surprise Wedding

What started as a casual backyard BBQ quickly became one of the most memorable weddings I have ever performed. Friends and family gathered around the backyard, thinking they were simply spending the afternoon together — sausages on the grill, music playing and everyone relaxing in the sunshine. Then, through the side gate, I appeared carrying a surfboard and dressed in a wetsuit. Nick looked over and casually called out, “Any chance you know a celebrant who could marry us?” I said, “Well, I could give it a go!” Within moments, laughter turned into complete shock as guests realised this wasn’t just a BBQ — it was a wedding. Wearing the wetsuit, I stepped into celebrant mode and delivered a ceremony that was relaxed, hilarious, heartfelt and completely unforgettable. What made it so special wasn’t just the surprise, but how perfectly it reflected Vanessa and Nick as a couple: fun, spontaneous and entirely themselves. Over the years, I have learnt that the best ceremonies aren’t about following tradition — they’re about creating moments people will remember forever.

Story two

Pirate Wedding

Another wedding  I will never forget was for a couple who belonged to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, where dressing as a pirate is a cherished tradition. Naturally, they wanted a full pirate-themed ceremony, and that included me! Armed with my best pirate accent and instructions to behave like a slightly tipsy buccaneer, I was more than happy to go along with their idea.

The festivities began with a ceremonial walk along the plank before we arrived at the “altar” in their backyard. Laughter, pirate banter, and plenty of good humour filled the air, making it a wedding that none of us will ever forget.

p.s. Please excuse the AI-generated image attached as I don’t have a real photo of this particular wedding. This will give you an idea of the feeling.

Story three

“Traditional”
Greek Wedding

Another unique wedding I’ve had the pleasure of presenting was for a Greek couple who wanted to recreate the light-hearted atmosphere of a traditional Greek wedding in the comfort of their own home. To help bring their vision to life, I was asked to dress as a Greek Orthodox priest, wave incense throughout the ceremony, and even say a few Greek words and phrases. It was a wonderful experience that combined tradition, humour, and family celebration. The guests thoroughly embraced the occasion, and the laughter, smiles, and sense of “almost” authenticity made it a truly memorable day for everyone involved — including me!

Every wedding I write and perform starts with the two of you — your story, your people, your idea of fun.
